Snapshot of dining out with allergies... a beautiful cut of Pacific Northwest salmon behind a heaping serving of local asparagus. All prepared on a clean grill, no butter.
The effort for this proposed bill is rooted in a desire to connect the dots between trends of food allergy legislation unfolding in the United States with King County's progressive efforts and equitable approach to foodborne illness prevention.

Having experienced anaphylaxis on multiple occurrences when dining out, I decided it is time for the 'telephone game' from the front of the house to the back of the house to evolve. While pursuing a master's in legal studies at Seattle University school of Law, this capstone project allowed me to identify specific, actionable ways in which our is region is uniquely poised to respond to these concerns. I aimed to compose a bill that expands the mission of King County Public Health, "to improve safety for all consumers" to include those navigating the risk of food allergies.
I look forward to continuing this effort with local stakeholders and legislators, to broaden the discussion how the PNW can take the lead to solve this together. I aspire to one day take my thirteen-year-old daughter, whom also has multiple life-threatening food allergies, into a restaurant to celebrate.
