CERTIFIED FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER
In March 2023, WA will require one employee per food service establishment. (WAC 246-215-02107)

The CFPM can be the business owner, a manager or a contractor. They are responsible for creating written plans and training a Person in Charge (PIC).

KING COUNTY FOOD SAFETY RATING SYSTEM
A great deal of intention and planning went into creating our local food safety and rating system. Public Health worked in tandem with academic partnerships to create an equitable and consistent food safety rating system that understood the importance the transparency with public communication.

NATIONAL FOOD ALLERGY LAW PROTECTIONS
A handful of states and counties understand the gap in food allergy compliance. The following states have all passed laws designed for food allergy safety while dining out: ​

MODEL BILL LANGUAGE
King County's proposed BOTH Bill was modeled after the latest food allergen legislation to pass in the United States.
​
This measure unanimously passed in May 0f 2022 by the Board of Legislators in Westchester County, NY. The bill ensures that restaurants have personnel on site who have been trained in food allergy safety, including designated food safety officers during operating hours. Posting of signs for employees and allergen identification are key aspects of the legislation.

CONFERENCE FOR FOOD PROTECTION
The Conference for Food Protection was created to provide to bring together experts of the food services industry, regulatory authorities, academia, consumers, and professional organizations to have equal input in the development and/or modification of food safety guidance.
​
The Food Allergen Committee
is currently developing an operational framework for food allergy prevention and controls for consideration to be adopted into the next FDA Food Code.
​
FARECHECK
The University of Washington is the only recognized institution in WA that is FARECheck certified.
​
FARECheck offers a tiered certification program that also offers on-site audits. This program has been adopted by several college campuses nationwide.
​
Recently, the Miami Dolphins / Hard Rock Stadium became the first stadium in the nation to be FARECheck certified.
​
FARE FOOD ALLERGY SERVICE SUMMIT
FARE also offers an annual FARE Food Service Summit that brings together leaders in the food service industry to present and share the latest in food allergy accommodations.
​
This fantastic event also addressed the social-emotional impact many young adults face navigating food allergies on college campuses.
​
