Legislative purpose
Currently, the King County Retail Food Code is primarily directed at preventing foodborne illness. With simple legislative changes and compliance procedures, a food allergy safety and compliance program would:

Improve quality, safety, and efficiency of food allergy risk mitigation for patrons and restaurants

Engage patrons in their responsibility to inform restaurants

Improve the health protections of a considerable population of King County residents

Increase coordination of communication between patrons and food service establishments

Empower all food service workers to increase food allergy awareness

Enhance the established audit process for Food Safety Inspectors to also address compliance food allergy training
